ZEPHYR HILLS, Fla. -- Roland Albert Jacques, a resident of Zephyr Hills, Fla., died on Jan. 5, 2014, in his home with his partner Joanne Lucier of 22 years by his side of a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Rumford on Aug. 31, 1940, the son of Eugene and Yvonne Jacques. He spent most of his life in Maine and has resided in Florida for the past 12 years.
Roland was a devoted father, partner, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He worked for Community Oil and Carey Oil in Rumford as an oil burner technician, and as a bartender at the Snowshoe Club for many years. He loved being with his family and making them smile. He enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, snowmobiling and horseshoes.
He was an avid pool player, most called him a pool shark and played 18 years on a men's softball team. He was a member of The Moose in Florida and also a member of the Snowshoe Club since 1969.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Shirley Radcliff Jacques of Rumford; sons Roland Albert Jacques Jr. and Marcia Chaisson of Mexico, Michael Jacques and wife Amanda Jacques of Mexico, and Norman Jacques of Rumford; step-son Ed Caderette and wife Diane of Vermont and his daughter Rhonda Belanger and husband Roger of Rumford; grandchildren, Josh Longway, Jasmine Jacques, Joseline Belanger, Brandon Jacques, Alyssa Jacques, Dakota Jacques and Ian Jacques; step-grandchildren, Beth Myles and Jonathan Myles; great-grandchildren, Mason Jacques, Hailee Glover and Wyatt Sicotte; brother Richard Jacques and wife Sharon of Gorham, sisters, Pauline Sargeant and husband Clayton and Jackie Cote, all of Rumford; nieces, Kim Cocca and husband Pete of Rumford, Charlene and husband David Nelson of Livermore, Christine Leavitt and partner Steve of Rumford, Nicole Jacques and partner Joe of Florida, and nephews, Peter Jacques and wife Jen of Portland, Paul Jacques of Gorham, and Bobby Jacques and wife Debra of Florida. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Jacques of Florida; and parents, Eugene and Yvonne Jacques of Rumford.
