KENNEBUNK -- Martha Ann Wright, 96, of Kennebunk, died on Feb. 20, 2013, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House following a brief illness.
Martha was born on Oct. 17, 1916, in Lowell, Mass., the youngest of nine children of William and Ann (Gallagher) Rowlandson.
After graduating from Lowell High School, she went on to earn her bachelor's degree in nursing. She practiced nursing for only a few months before marrying Francis Xavier Wright on May 17, 1941. Martha devoted her time to taking care of her new household while Francis served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and then while Francis took over his family's business at the Minnehaha Spring Water Company in Ohio.
Martha enjoyed reading the Wall Street Journal daily, dried flower arranging, and a good lobster roll. She loved spending time with her family and traveling with her husband, Francis.
Martha was predeceased by her husband, Francis in 2012; and by her daughter, D. Ann Whalen. She is survived by her son, Thomas R. Wright and his wife Suzanne of Union; her son-in-law Michael Whalen; four grandchildren, Melissa, Jack, Nathan and Noah; and three great-grandchildren, Shane, Robbie and Ann Catherine.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Parish at St. Martha's Church in Kennebunk on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Father Thomas Murphy. Interment will follow later this spring at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lowell, Mass. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. www.bibberfuneral.com
