Lucien Daigle, 87
CUMBERLAND FORESIDE -- Lucien J. Daigle, 87, of Cumberland Foreside, died on Dec. 4, 2012, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a period of declining health.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1925, in Fort Kent, one of nine children of William and Sophie (Berube) Daigle and attended local schools.
Lucien served in the U.S. Navy
as a Seabee on an LST in the South Pacific. After discharge he settled in Portland working as a mechanic and retiring from St. Johnsbury Transportation as a body repairman. Along the way he had the good fortune to marry Sylvia Franklin and together they have a son.
Lucien enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and every room of their home has furniture he created. He enjoyed making clocks, especially grandfather clocks and others in a Shaker style. Lucien had a great love of the water and he and his son Stephen built a boat together, the Little Liz, which was moored at The Town Landing at the time when only a handful of boats were moored there.
Lucien is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sylvia Daigle of Cumberland Foreside; his son Stephen and his wife Kathleen of Falmouth; his grandson Stephen of Portland; his great-grandson Scott; his brother Arthur of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with the simplicity of Lucien's life, there will be no services; however, he will be buried at sea next summer. Please visit www.lindquistfuneralhome.com
