Lillian Aiken

Lillian Aiken, 89
SACO -- Lillian Aiken, formerly of Alfred, died on July 29, 2014, at the age of 89, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco, after a period of declining health.
After receiving her Doctorate from Harvard University in 1955, Lillian taught philosophy at Wellesley College until 1963, when she moved to Maine to become the first full-time philosophy professor at Nasson College, where she served with distinction on the faculty from 1963 until 1984. After Nasson closed, she taught part-time at the University of Southern Maine until her retirement.
Lillian loved taking care of her many cats, feeding the birds, gardening, walking in the woods, following politics, rooting for the Patriots, and collecting antiques. She will be greatly missed by generations of students who she taught and mentored.
She is survived by her son David and daughter-in-law Rebekah of Beverly, Mass.; and her sister, Retha Upton of North Penobscot.
At Lillian's request, there will be no funeral or memorial services. Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale.
