SOUTH PORTLAND -- Joan Louise Caswell, 86, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2013, at the Atlantic Heights nursing home in Saco.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1927, in Brewer, to Phillip J. and Annie (Beaulieu) Veilleux.
Joan grew up in Bangor and graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School. She married Donald in 1950 and moved to South Portland in 1953, where she raised her family and faithfully attended Holy Cross Catholic Church.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother. Joan was an avid bridge player, belonged to several bowling leagues and was a wonderful cook and homemaker. One of her favorite past times was attending her children's and grandchildren's school activities and sporting events. Joan will be greatly missed and will always be in our hearts and prayers.
She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Lucille Darling, and a brother, Philip Veilleux. She is survived by her beloved husband, Donald, of 63 years; sister, Lorraine Giles; her three sons, Christopher and his wife Karen of Scarborough, Daniel of Bonney Lake, Wash., Terrence of Eliot, her daughter, Jane Flynn and her husband Jeffrey of South Portland; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday at the South Portland Chapel, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough.
