Helen Pockriss, 100
SACO -- Helen Pockriss, 100, of Saco, passed away with her loving family by her side on Wednesday evening, March 6, 2013, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 2, 1913, the daughter of Max and Ettie (Wadofsky) Hackman. She graduated from the Girls High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Helen grew up helping at their family deli in Brooklyn. She married her first husband William Bergida in 1938 and lived in New Jersey.
In 1958, she married her second husband Alex. They moved to the eastern shore of Maryland and started The Sewing Outlet. Retiring in 1991, they moved to Old Orchard Beach.
Her hobbies included looking at old family photographs and reading, where she read the entire newspaper each day even at the age of 100. She was known for her sense of humor and great wit. Her family was special to her and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband William on March 5, 1956, her second husband Alex Pockriss on July 3, 2001 and by her sister Lucy Bergman. She is survived by her daughter Felice B. Manthorne and her husband Arnold of Saco, with whom she resided, her son Jay Bergida and his wife Eileen of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren, Joann Cantor and her husband Drew, Wendy Hiatt and her husband Rob, Brigitta Allen and her husband Marshall, Randy Bergida, Blake Dubin and his wife Christina; eight great-grandchildren, Megan, Evan, Hallie, Lauren, Finn, Collin, Ingrid & Eli; one nephew, Steven Bergman; one step grandson, Heath; four step great- grandchildren, Nick, Deven, Jordan & Krystana.
The family would like to thank Helen's wonderful caregivers, Wendy, Shari, Elisha & Charlene and special friends Debbie & Lucile.
