Evelyn R. Choate, 84
KENNEBUNK -- Evelyn R. Choate, 84, of Kennebunk, died on Wednesday morning, April 3, 2013, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. She was born in Long Island, N.Y., on Dec. 14, 1928, the daughter of Howard P. and Mary Mae Magnus. She graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Cambria Heights, N.Y.
Evelyn met her husband, Warren at church youth group and they were married in 1950. They lived in Levittown, LI and then E. Northport, LI for 30 years. She was active in church and her community, volunteering at Kings Park State Hospital. She sang in the church choir at Northport Church and worked with the Red Cross on community blood drives.
Evelyn bowled with two church leagues and a town league. She bowled in many tournaments. She was a devout Yankee's and Atlanta Braves fan.
Evelyn and Warren moved to Kennebunk upon Warren's retirement in 1990. She was active again in her church and community, sang in the church choir, was on various committees and was on the board of the community food bank. She worked with Southern Maine Medical Center in Community Relations.
She and her family, in the early days of their marriage, were avid travelers, traveling all over the world.
She was predeceased by her husband, Warren Choate in 2000. Survivors include her son, Mathew A. Choate and his wife Collette of Tupper Lake, N.Y., her daughter Denise Whitten of Wells; her brother, Howard Magnus and his wife Barbara of Barnegat, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Rebecca Choate and Shawn Whitten.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 6-8 p.m., at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2 Lord St., Kennebunk, with the Rev. Richard Horner officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. www.bibberfuneral.com.
