Ethel L. Paige, 99
GORHAM -- Ethel L. Paige, 99, of Gorham, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at the Gorham House in Gorham.
She was born in Westbrook on Oct. 9, 1913, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Emma Hebert. She attended local schools and graduated with honors from Westbrook High School in 1931. She married Robert P. Paige in 1937 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage just prior to his death in 1987. She was a resident of Gorham since 1941.
Ethel was employed for 25 years by the S.D. Warren/Scott Paper Company in the customer service/shipping department, she retired in 1976. She then worked as a staff member at the Baxter Memorial Library in Gorham, retiring after 17 years of service in 1995. She was an avid reader and will be remembered for making book recommendations to her library patrons. She also was a wonderful cook and was famous for her much sought after Sugar Cookies.
She was one of the original parishioners of the St. Anne's Catholic Church. She provided her family and friends with many cherished moments and wonderful memories which will be held dear in all their hearts.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; and by sisters, Phyllis Hamilton and Lois Gagnon Houle, a brother, Benjamin; and a daughter-in-law, Janice Paige. She is survived by her two sons, Robert of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Phillip and his wife, Gail of Dover, N.H.; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 299 Main St., Gorham, on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. A spring burial will be private in the Eastern Cemetery, Gorham.
