Deborah Ellen Metivier

Deborah Ellen Metivier, 60
STANDISH -- Deborah Ellen Metivier, 60, a long time Standish resident, died on Oct. 8, 2013, at her home.
Born on Sept. 11, 1953, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Cathleen Joy (Christensen) Jacobsen. She was raised in Westbrook, but ultimately graduated from Deering High School and later Westbrook College.
On June 16, 1973, she married her high-school sweetheart, Alen John Metivier. They moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. briefly, but returned to Maine and settled in Standish. There they raised two daughters.
Debbie was a tireless giver. She donated her time volunteering in local schools, leading Girl Scout troops, and helping her husband coach youth athletics. With a humble heart, she donated food, clothing, and toys to families in need. She excelled at making her home a welcoming place for friends, neighbors, and family.
While she took a hiatus to raise her young family, once her children were school aged, she was employed as a tutor and substitute teacher. Ultimately, she returned to employment as a medical assistant. Until her treatment limited her ability to work, she spent 20 years aiding Dr. Carl Schuler and she truly enjoyed her work and touched many lives.
Her overwhelming strength, courage, and faith helped her to thrive through a seven-year journey with breast cancer. Her optimism and humor were infectious.
Ultimately, family was her greatest pride and joy. Deb and Alen celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this year. She adored her five grandchildren. Family dinners, board games, knitting, and relaxing days poolside were among her hobbies.
Debbie was predeceased by her parents. Her remaining, beloved family include her husband Alen; daughter Kellie Ramsdell and husband Heath of Limington, Kaitlin Nash and husband James of Limington; and beloved grandchildren, Dawson Ramsdell, Mackenzie Ramsdell, Madelyn Ramsdell, Reagan Nash, and Harper Nash. A brother Gary 'Jake' Jacobsen resides in Scarborough. A wealth of loving and supportive extended family and friends mourn too.
Her life will be remembered at a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., Westbrook. Arrangements are by the Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham. To leave a message of condolence, please visit our web sit at:
