SOUTH PORTLAND -- Pauline L. Robishaw, 75, passed away on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at the Maine Medical Center, Portland.
She was born on March 25, 1936 in Springvale, the daughter of Emile J. and Louise A. (Plamondon) L'Esperance and was educated in Springvale schools. She graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Sanford (1953).
Pauline decided to pursue a career in nursing. She was a 1956 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and attended Hunter College and New York University. She received her Bachelor Degree in Nursing from the University of New Brunswick, Canada (1971) and went on to earn her Master Degree in Education at the University of Southern Maine (1980).
She worked at Cedars Nursing Home in Portland and retired in 2000. She also taught at Mercy and Maine Medical Center for many years.
She joined Beta Sigma Phi in 1973 and then Xi Tau/Preceptor Nu and enjoyed the many gatherings with her sorority sisters. She enjoyed crafts, painting, charcoals & pastels and reading. She loved traveling to many places throughout the world especially her trips with Ed and their two trips to Alaska by train, bus and cruise ship, looked forward to their Sunday day trips with her mother-in-law Anne Stowell of North Yarmouth and the many visits to Bartlett, N.H. visiting with friends, Carroll and Nancy Hayes.
Pauline was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in South Portland. She was a member of the Nursing School Alumnae and Nursing School in New Brunswick, Canada and the Beth Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is predeceased by her first husband Robert (Bob) Robishaw Sr. in 1984, three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her loving husband, Edward N. Stowell Sr. of South Portland, her sister Mrs. Robert (Theresa) Sylvain of Springvale; six stepsons, four stepdaughters; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Southern Maine Dialysis in Portland and the staff at Maine Medical Center for her care.
