BIDDEFORD -- Francis P. Kelley, 81, of Biddeford, died on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford after a brief illness.
He was born in Biddeford on April 17, 1932, the son of Frederick C. and Mary Ellen Daly. He was educated in Biddeford schools and graduated from Biddeford High School with the class of 1952.
Following graduation Francis enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge in 1956 he continued to serve his country with the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 12 years until his discharge in 1968.
On Nov. 9, 1957, he married Rachel M.R. Bergeron in St. Andre's Church in Biddeford.
Mr. Kelley worked many years with Kesslen Shoe Shop in Kennebunk and Westland Shoe Shop in Biddeford. He last worked 19 years with Maremont Corp. and Saco Defense Corp. in Saco before retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed following local, college and professional sports especially Biddeford High School sports, the University of Notre Dame, the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He loved to care for his granddaughter Jennifer.
He was predeceased by three brothers, his twin brother Frederick Kelley, John Kelley and Robert Kelley, and two sisters, Theresa Amnotte and Maureen Gaudreau. Surviving are his wife of 56 years of Biddeford; his daughter, Diane Chretien and her husband Michael B. of Saco; one granddaughter, Jennifer Chretien of Saco; one sister-in-law, Margaret Kelley of Arundel; and several nieces and nephews .
At his request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2014 at St. Mary's Cemetery in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. To share condolences on line, please visit www.HopeMemorial.com.
